Intelligences modelling each other modelling them, where the missing information is a property of the system
Mechanism
When autonomous agents model each other's perceptions and intentions, and model the others modelling them, the regress has no fixed point. This is where EpistemicComplexity is strongest: all three of its dynamics hold at once, because each agent's analysis, measurement and prediction becomes something the others react to. Here BoundedModelOpenWorld is not a practical limit but structural. Each ModelAsCompression of another agent becomes an input that agent can react to.
Invariants
- Publishing a prediction can change the behaviour it predicts
- The only prediction immune to reflexivity is a self-fulfilling one
- Measuring an agent's state can alter it
Failure modes
- Treating a game of information as a physical forecasting problem that more data would solve
- Ignoring one's own effect on the environment being modelled
