BoundedHorizonEffort#b8e4
A known finite horizon raises the effort an agent spends per step
Mechanism
Telling an agent that a role lasts many rounds, or that it will end at a known time, makes it treat each step as consequential. Effort scales with the perceived stake of the whole horizon, even when only one round is actually executed.
Invariants
- The horizon is stated to the agent, not merely implied
- Perceived duration changes the agent's care per step
Failure modes
- Horizon so short that endgame defection appears
- Stated horizon that contradicts what actually happens erodes trust in later instructions
