ChatUncannyValley#930c
Conversation with an agent feels wrong when the illusion of a person breaks
Mechanism
As a chat agent approaches natural conversation, small inconsistencies (length that does not match how a teammate would answer, no memory of the user, generic advice) break the illusion and feel unsettling. Cookie-cutter filters and system prompts cannot fix it because the deficit is missing knowledge of who is being talked to.
Invariants
- Naturalness depends on knowing the conversation partner
- The break appears as a mismatch between expected and actual behavior
Failure modes
- Over-engineered persona that increases the mismatch
- Long generic answers to short questions
Identity
The name is the hash of the definition. Change a word and it becomes a different pattern.
