Mechanism
MotivatedInstrumentTuning in a human researcher has a counterpart in models: a belief present in the context leads the model to support it, the same mechanism as PinkElephantContext. The cause is context, not malice. Defenses are to report every setting and to keep contested beliefs out of the context when neutral evidence is wanted.
