FormChangeRepertoire#7c1d

A life cycle is a set of tactics played under stress, not a fixed sequence of stages

Mechanism

An organism or agent holds several forms and switches between them according to environmental stress, all serving one overall strategy. The slime mould lives as single cells, aggregates into a collective body through SelfOrganisation when food runs out, and releases spores as an option held in reserve. Failure in one form is a reason to change form, not to leave the game. The repertoire is MetaModularity applied to the body or organisation itself. Ending one instance and passing on what matters, as in GenerationalKnowledgeTransfer, is the same tactic at the scale of a lineage.

Invariants

  • Forms are selected by conditions, not by a predetermined order
  • What was learned in one form carries into the next

Failure modes

  • Reading a change of form as retreat and abandoning the strategy
  • Holding the reserve form too long and missing the moment it was needed

Identity

The name is the hash of the definition. Change a word and it becomes a different pattern.
