HypeCorrectionCycle#2980
Unverifiable claims run on fear of missing out until markets demand proof
Mechanism
When claims cannot be verified and no editor or filter checks them, belief spreads through fear of missing out and profit motive. Because stocks are purchases of future profit at a discount, the same dynamic is built into markets. Correction comes slowly, when a company fails to deliver and goes out of business, and may harm many before it arrives.
Invariants
- Proof is eventually demanded
- Correction lags the hype
Failure modes
- Damage to bystanders during the lag
- Long cycles that exhaust patient capital
Identity
The name is the hash of the definition. Change a word and it becomes a different pattern.
