RiskExoskeleton#7b41
The risk-management uses hidden inside assets whose obvious purpose is something else
Mechanism
Almost every asset an organism or organisation holds also manages risk. The exoskeleton is built from two tactics. Shock absorption buffers a hit, as homeostasis does through ActiveInferenceHomeostasis and fat reserves do through famine. Shock evasion keeps options that sidestep the hit, which comes down to holding several models in the manner of MetaModularity. Every option has a carrying cost, so the task is to hold as many as the system can afford to maintain.
Invariants
- Each tactic is either absorption or evasion
- Evasion always requires an option held before the shock
- Options carry a maintenance cost
Failure modes
- Thin model: the hidden uses of existing assets are never searched for
- Collecting options beyond what the system can afford
- Optimising an asset for its obvious purpose and destroying its buffer role, as with stock cut to free working capital
